Nursery

Our nursery is for infants to children who are 24 months.  The nursery is open every Sunday morning for both the 9:30 & 10:30 hours.  We seek to provide a loving, safe, and clean facility for your baby so that you can comfortably participate in a class and worship.  The following policies seek to promote these values:

No shoes beyond the nursery gate:  Anyone (including, but not limited to: caregivers, parents, siblings, grandparents, and walking children) who needs to go past the gate, must remove shoes and leave on the mat below the bulletin board. Even if your shoes appear clean, they are covered in germs and those germs will pass onto the carpet. We have many crawlers, and children who put toys (that have been on the floor) into their mouths. Every step we can take to eliminate illness should be taken.

Children being dropped off and picked up at the nursery will need to be handed over the gate: This will eliminate parents need to remove their shoes, and will decrease the likelihood of hitting a small child or pinching a child’s finger who is playing near the gate. It also upsets many children each time the gate is opened, because it reminds them that their parents are not there.

Only scheduled caretakers (or their substitutes) will be allowed to stay in the nursery with the children: Our nursery has very limited space, and is not set up for extra adults. If more help is needed, beyond the two scheduled caretakers, the on-call caretaker will be contacted. Mothers who need to quickly feed their infant may use the chair behind the curtain in the nursery. Mothers, feel free to utilize the nursing mothers room located behind the balcony if you need to feed or calm your child.

Please label all personal items: This includes items such as diaper bags, bottles, pacifiers and cups.

Please bring extra clothes: If an accident does occur, this will enable us to keep your child in the best of care at all times.

Potty training: Please indicate on the sign in sheet if your child is potty training.

Please do not feel that you must check on your child during the educational hour or the service:

Please remember that you are leaving your child (ren) in safe hands. Qualified workers are individually ministering to, your child (ren). We want you to enjoy the opportunities given you. If your child cries inconsolably for more than 15 minutes we will notify you or follow any requests that you have made concerning this issue. If you would like us to call you in a shorter or longer period of time, please indicate that on the sign in sheet. If in case of an emergency where we would need to leave the premises, please avoid coming to pick up your child. You will be reunited with your child once we are all out of harm’s way.

Pick your child up from the nursery immediately after the close of the service: This courtesy requires the support of ALL parents. After church, many of the nursery staff has children of their own to retrieve. In addition, the nursery is straightened by our staff and this cannot be done until all children have been released. Please support this request by your promptness.

Children who have the following symptoms are not permitted in the nursery.
  • Cold symptoms—sneezing, coughing with yellow or green mucus. (Clear mucus is usually a sign of an allergy and isn’t contagious.)
  • Fever within the last 48 hours
  • Diarrhea in the last 12 hours
  • Vomiting in the last 12 hours
  • Chicken pox (any pox not scabbed over)
  • Rash anywhere on the body

We ask that only one parent drop off and pick up your child: To reduce the amount of congestion in the nursery, if possible, try to remain near the entrance and say goodbye quickly. This will alleviate confusion as most children calm down within a few minutes of your departure. Children will not be released to siblings or others not authorized to pick them up.

PLEASE KEEP US UPDATED ON THE NEEDS OF YOUR CHILD, SO THAT WE CAN GIVE YOUR CHILD THE BEST CARE POSSIBLE.  Review the information once a month and give us revisions on a registration sheet.

We are excited that your child is a part of the church family here at Main Street Baptist. We hope that they will look forward to coming to the nursery and feel comfortable and secure. We always appreciate any feedback or suggestions from the parents. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions!
